Is it just the coming of age fad for kids today , or is there an underlying emotional problem linked to wanting to tattoo and put holes in yourself ?

Like you said, its just a coming of age thing, an outward sign of rebellion against his parents and their generation. Its just a way of saying "I'm here, this is me, I'm not under my parents control anymore, I'm independent and have my own mind" I went through the same thing but with tattoos and I wasn't rebelling against my parents I was rebelling against the org I bet if you said they were cool and went out and got one before he did he'd drop the Idea

You could point out that a prospective employer might not like it and it might cost him a job.

There is *one* way you could talk him out of it. lol

Tell him you've noticed that facial piercings are really in with "gays" (use that term, it'll make him wince lol) then go right over the top with the concerned mommy act and ask him if hes gay, he'll flip that his mum thinks hes gay and forget the idea

Finish off the conversation with something like "look honey I don't mind if my little babys gay, why don't you bring your boyfriend home for dinner one Sunday"

lol

Of course this could all go horribly wrong and backfire if he really is gay

18 yr olds still get into fights. If its a ring he stands a fair chance of having his lip ripped open if the ring gets caught in a fight, if its a stud there's a fair chance that during a fight the stud could shatter a tooth if he takes a punch straight on the pierced area.

i just received this news from a bro who has connections in bethel.... .

bro albert d schroeder died at 10:30 am new york time today at brooklyn bethel...he was 94 yrs old.. he was born on april 7, 1911 in saginaw, michigan and entered bethel service in 1932. he was appointed a member of the governing body on december 18, 1974. bro schroeder's life story appeared in the march 1, '88 wt pages 10-17: entitled: "my life in jehovah's spirit-directed organization.".

i don't know if the "today" means it was actually today...as i can't be sure when my friend received this news... but anyway, another of the old guys bites the dust.. .

Good riddance. The stubborn unfeeling 'old guard' at the WTS needs to go away -- the sooner the better.

Unfortunatly my Dub Brainwashing wont let me believe in Hell... Which is a shame because I'd like to believe this is were hes gone.

some of you are just now learning what long-suffering older posters have known all along i can be very annoying!

my rising paranoia tells me enemies are setting up all around ... golf keeps whacking me with his #12 iron, the elders keep threatening to take me to the backroom, and even the mild mannered caveman comes out to kick me in the go-nuts

Last king of the north - Russia

from the 2005 cdrom there are plenty of references to russia being the king of the north.

this starts, as far as i found, at least as early as 1960. what is more difficult to locate are articles that imply that russia is the last kofn.

if anyone has any handy please paste them.

It's my last day at work tomorrow

if anyone was reading a post of mine a few months back, i posted that i was doing a course and some exams for work and that the announcement was made shortly after i started the course that i was being made redundant.

well... tomorrow is my last day!!!

(or to be precise last half day as we're all going to the pub at lunch time and i wont be returning) .
